Bodywork Session 2 - Day 5 - Rear offside wheel arch rebuild and further issues

Day five of our second session.

Today we begin and complete the rebuilding of CRG163’s offside rear wheel arch, which has included the water splash backs each side and side pillar.

We also notice that there is an issue with the lower structure under the fuel tank between the rotten wood and the fact that it is bent, suspected from a collision at some point.  The outer panel and brightwork also attaches to this section and as such it must be rectified.

This has set us back by about two days.  The rectification work cannot be rushed and must be right.  Sion’s precision and outstanding standard of craftsmanship is second to none as we tackle all issues faced.  The result is truly magnificent at the hands of Sion, who is such a skilled individual.

CRG163’s offside rear wheel arch rebuild and side pillar takes shape

Sion undertaking careful measuring and fitment of wheel arch pieces so that they are placed perfectly in place.

As the wheel arch is put carefully together we discover issues with the lower structure under the fuel tank.

The lower structure under the fuel tank is carefully removed and inspected.

The lower section under the fuel tank is rebuilt, which includes a new much stronger wooden section than before.  This will strengthen the lower section as we as maintaining the straight lines required for when the panel and brightwork is reinstated.

As the lower structure under the fuel tank is rebuilt and strengthened, Sion continues to check the straightness of the section.

The completed lower section under the fuel tank with new wood in place.  This also includes strengthened wood sections behind the wood seen in the image which are just about visible.

Once the structure under the fuel tank is complete, which links to the pillar in front of the wheel arch and wheel arch itself we move back to finalise the wheel arch.

The structure under the fuel tank, side pillar and wheel arch rectification work is now complete, making way to wood work and panelling tomorrow.

Me standing next to CRG163 tonight.
